Amid escalating violence in parts of Mexico, the Indian Embassy in Mexico City has put out a cautionary notice for Indian citizens to be extra cautious and limit their travel to the affected areas. The notice comes after violence broke out due to clashes that ensued after a security operation targeting a high-ranking cartel leader.
Advisory for Indian nationals
In a statement shared on X, the embassy said, “There are ongoing security operations and related road blockages and criminal activity, Indian nationals in Jalisco State (areas of Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, and Guadalajara), Tamaulipas State (areas of Reynosa and other municipalities), areas of Michoacan State, Guerrero State, and Nuevo Leon State should shelter in place until further notice.”
The embassy has urged Indians to avoid areas where police operations are taking place, be vigilant about their surroundings, and avoid unnecessary travel. They should avoid crowded areas, monitor local news for updates, and follow the guidelines of the local authorities. In case of an emergency, they should call 911.

Clashes after anti-cartel operation
This violence comes after an army operation targeting Nemesio Ruben Oseguera Cervantes, alias El Mencho, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Mexico’s defence ministry reported that he was seriously injured in a shootout with soldiers in Jalisco and died while being airlifted to Mexico City.
