Banks across India will remain closed on several days between April 13 and April 19, 2026, due to a cluster of regional festivals and observances. The holiday schedule varies by state, as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar, but some days will see closures across a large number of cities.

Key holiday dates and regions

April 14, Tuesday, will be a major holiday observed in many parts of the country on account of Ambedkar Jayanti along with festivals such as Maha Vishuva Sankranti, Baisakhi, Tamil New Year, Bohag Bihu and others. Banks will remain closed in cities including Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Lucknow and several more.

On April 15, Wednesday, banks will again remain shut in multiple regions for Pohela Boishakh, Bohag Bihu, Vishu and Himachal Day. Cities such as Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Guwahati, Kochi and Shimla are among those affected.

April 19, Sunday, will be a regular weekly holiday for banks across India.

What about Saturday banking?

Banks will remain open on Saturday, April 18, as it falls on the third Saturday of the month. As per RBI norms, banks are closed only on the second and fourth Saturdays, while the first, third and fifth Saturdays are working days.

Services available during holidays

Even when branches are closed, essential banking services will continue. Customers can use online banking platforms and mobile apps for fund transfers, bill payments and balance checks. ATMs will also remain operational for cash withdrawals and other basic services.

However, services that require visiting a branch, such as cheque clearance, document submission or in-person consultations, will not be available on these holidays.

Since bank holidays differ across states, customers are advised to check with their local branch before planning a visit.
