A bomb threat call on Saturday led to the 13005 Up Punjab Mail being halted at Chandanpur station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district. The station lies on the Howrah–Burdwan chord line. An unidentified caller alerted the railway helpline, claiming there was a bomb on the train. The train was entering Chandanpur at the time, prompting authorities to immediately stop it as a precaution.
Security agencies launch intensive search operation
The Amritsar-bound Punjab Mail had departed from Howrah at around 7:30 pm. Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel reached the station soon after the alert. Eastern Railway’s CPRO Shivram Majhi said search operations are underway with the help of dog squad and bomb squad teams, which is why the train has been detained.
Railway police have conducted an initial search of the train, but nothing suspicious has been found so far. The caller who issued the bomb threat has not yet been traced.
Hooghly (rural) Superintendent of Police Kumar Sani Raj said district police extended assistance after being informed by railway authorities. Additional bomb squad officials from Howrah are on their way to support the ongoing operation.
