The Indian Army is set to induct the indigenous “Suryastra” system equipped with fully Indian-made launchers, marking another major step in the country’s defence self-reliance efforts under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. According to reports cited by News18, the new system has been developed with a focus on reducing dependence on foreign defence imports while strengthening India’s domestic military manufacturing capabilities.
The induction is being seen as part of the government’s broader push to modernise defence infrastructure using locally developed technologies and equipment.
Focus on indigenous defence systems
Reports of News18 stated that the Suryastra system has been designed using entirely indigenous launchers and components developed within India. Officials reportedly highlighted the project as an example of growing collaboration between the Indian armed forces and domestic defence manufacturers.
The move comes amid increasing emphasis on locally produced defence equipment across the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Over the last few years, India has expanded investments in homegrown defence production as part of its self-reliance goals.
