A Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor of the South Dum Dum Municipality was found dead under unnatural circumstances on Saturday. The deceased, Sanjay Das, was the councillor of Ward No. 18 and served as Chairman-in-Council of the Health department.
According to local sources, his body was found hanging inside his home. Family members reportedly spotted him with a noose around his neck and immediately rushed him to a private hospital in Nagerbazar. Doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival.
Political leaders visit, family assured support
After news of the incident spread, former Rajarhat-Gopalpur MLA Aditi Munshi reached the spot. She assured the family of all possible support during this time.

Questions over mental stress surface
Reacting to the incident, Kiran Bhattacharya, TMC president of Ward No. 24 in South Dum Dum, said that it should be investigated whether Sanjay was under any kind of mental pressure.
The circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear.
