An 89-year-old woman in Beijing climbed down the outside of a high-rise building after she locked herself in her bedroom. Moving along the narrow railings nearly 50 meters above the ground, she climbed down from the 27th floor of the building to the 21st floor in a shocking incident that left onlookers stunned. The sight left the netizens in shock, as it was hard to look away from the incident.
‘Spider granny’ stuns with daring escape
Per the South China Morning Post, the incident took place on the afternoon of April 1, when the woman accidentally locked herself in the bedroom and found no way to get help. Without waiting or panicking, she made a risky decision to climb out the window railing, attempting to escape on her own.
She was first spotted outside the building around the 26th floor, and within moments, she had reached down to the 21st floor of the building. A cleaner and a security guard heard a faint sound, looked up and saw her holding onto the metal railings that protect the air-conditioning units of the building’s exterior.

Realising the danger, the security guard and the cleaner immediately informed the police. They tried to get her attention by shouting at the top of their voice and urged her to stop and wait for help. But the “spider granny” continued her dangerous climb and reached the 21st floor of the building.
Rescue team steps in to bring her to safety
By the time firefighters arrived, she had already climbed down several floors on her own. Rescuers assessed the situation and found it too risky to reach her from the outside.

Instead, they coordinated a rescue from within the building. Firefighters secured her with a safety rope and carefully cut part of the railing so she could move onto an air-conditioned platform and rest. From there, she was safely brought back inside.
The woman managed to escape the ordeal without any injuries despite the high risk involved.
Many people were shocked by the story, not only because of the danger involved but also because of her remarkable determination at the age of 89. Most people find it difficult to imagine attempting something like this even at a younger age.
