In a significant move ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season, authorities have introduced a comprehensive safety plan for Royal Challengers Bengaluru's home matches. The measures are designed to ensure better crowd management and prevent any untoward incidents during high-attendance games at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Reduced Capacity for Better Control

One of the key changes includes a reduction in stadium capacity from approximately 35,000 to around 28,000 spectators. This decision aims to ease congestion and allow smoother movement of fans within and around the venue. Officials believe that limiting attendance will significantly improve emergency response capabilities and overall safety conditions.

Revamped Ticketing System

To further streamline operations, nearly 80% of match tickets will be sold online. This step is expected to reduce long queues and chaotic scenes outside ticket counters. Offline ticket sales will be limited and released only a few days before matches, minimising last-minute crowd build-up near the stadium.

Introduction of Holding Areas

Authorities have also planned designated holding areas outside the stadium to regulate the flow of spectators before entry. These zones will help in dispersing crowds systematically and avoiding overcrowding at entry gates. Additionally, colour-coded ticketing and improved gate management systems will guide fans efficiently to their respective sections.

Lessons from the Past

The enhanced measures come in the wake of last year’s tragic crowd incident during celebrations involving the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Determined to avoid a repeat, officials are prioritising fan safety while maintaining the electrifying atmosphere of IPL matches.
