Honda’s big EV bet begins in India as 0 Alpha SUV starts testing ahead of 2027 launch

Honda has begun testing its upcoming 0 Alpha electric SUV in India, marking a key step toward its 2027 launch.

Honda has started testing its upcoming electric SUV, the Honda 0 Alpha, on Indian roads, signalling a major push into the country’s growing EV market. The testing phase is part of the company’s effort to evaluate the vehicle under real-world driving conditions before its expected launch in 2027.

Honda begins real-world testing of its first India EV

The 0 Alpha will be Honda’s first all-electric SUV for India, and it is expected to play a key role in the brand’s long-term electrification plans. The company is focusing on gathering data across different terrains and climates to fine-tune performance, range and durability. Globally, the SUV is part of Honda’s new 0 Series EV lineup, which represents a fresh design and engineering direction for the brand. The model is being positioned as an entry-level electric SUV within this new family.

India to be a key market and production hub

Honda has confirmed that the 0 Alpha will be manufactured in India, not just for domestic sales but also for exports to global markets. This underlines the importance of India in Honda’s EV strategy going forward. The electric SUV is expected to launch in early 2027, with India likely to be among the first markets to receive it. In terms of positioning, the 0 Alpha will compete with upcoming electric SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV and Maruti e-Vitara. Reports suggest the SUV could offer a range of around 500 km, making it competitive in the segment.

The model will also be built on a dedicated EV platform, featuring modern design elements like a sleek light bar, flush door handles and a futuristic cabin layout. As competition intensifies, the success of this SUV could define Honda’s position in the country’s fast-evolving EV market.
