Ruturaj Gaikwad has been added to the India A squad for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka after Riyan Parag was ruled out with a hamstring injury. The change was confirmed by the BCCI ahead of the tournament, which will feature India A, Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A.

Parag was initially named vice-captain of the side, but the injury has forced him to withdraw from the tour. The Rajasthan Royals captain will now undergo rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence as he focuses on recovery.

Parag sidelined by hamstring injury

The injury comes as a setback for Parag, who had been looking to build on his recent performances. Concerns over his fitness had emerged during the IPL 2026 playoffs, and the latest development means he will miss an important opportunity at the India A level.

The all-rounder remains a key prospect for Indian cricket, but his immediate priority will be regaining full fitness. The BCCI medical team will continue to monitor his progress during rehabilitation.

Gaikwad earns India A recall

Gaikwad’s inclusion gives the experienced top-order batter another opportunity to impress the selectors. The Chennai Super Kings skipper has been a consistent performer in domestic and franchise cricket and brings valuable experience to the squad.

India A will be led by Tilak Varma in the tri-series, with matches scheduled in Dambulla. The tournament begins on June 9, with India A taking on Sri Lanka A in the opening game.

The competition will be played in a double round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the final on June 21. After the white-ball series, India A will stay in Sri Lanka for two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka A in Galle.

For Gaikwad, the call-up offers a chance to strengthen his case for higher honours, while Parag will hope to make a swift recovery and return to action in the coming months.
