According to a TOI report, a source informed, “ During a mid-season review, a senior player suggested that India's young batter Tilak Varma, who has been with MI for a few years now, is the ideal person to be appointed captain next year.”

Hardik Pandya’s position has come under scrutiny following the team’s struggles. Reports claim the all-rounder could move on from the franchise, although no official decision has been announced.
