A viral video allegedly showing Aam Janata Unnayan Party chairman Humayun Kabir discussing a political "deal" has triggered controversy ahead of the Assembly elections. The video remains unverified. Trinamool Congress has accused Kabir of colluding with the BJP, while Kabir has denied all allegations.
The controversy escalated after Trinamool raised the issue at a press conference, claiming the video points to a plan to influence the election by dividing votes.
Allegations over 'deal' in viral video
In the video circulating on social media, Kabir is purportedly heard speaking about an understanding with senior BJP leaders. He is also allegedly heard discussing plans to contest elections through a separate party to divide Muslim votes and support the BJP if it comes to power.
Trinamool leaders claimed the video indicates a financial arrangement involving large sums of money and demanded further scrutiny into the matter.
Humayun denies, alleges AI manipulation
Responding to the allegations, Humayun Kabir rejected the claims and questioned the authenticity of the video. He said, "They cannot fight me politically. They are trying to harm me by creating videos using AI. I will not spare anyone and will file defamation cases. They must provide proof of these allegations."
He also denied any recent contact with BJP leaders. Kabir said, "I met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 at Brigade Parade Ground and greeted him. I met Home Minister Amit Shah on October 1, 2019, when I became a BJP candidate. Apart from these, there is no recent connection."
