A purported sting video of Humayun Kabir, leader of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party, has triggered political controversy ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections. The authenticity of the video has not been independently verified.

Based on the video, Trinamool Congress has alleged a conspiracy to divide votes and influence the election outcome. The BJP has denied the allegations.

What is in the video?

In the video circulating on social media, Humayun Kabir is seen speaking about the election strategy. He claims to have held discussions with the Prime Minister's Office and senior BJP leaders.

Kabir is heard saying, "I will win 70 to 80 Muslim-majority seats." He also claims that he would support the BJP after the elections and could be made Deputy Chief Minister if the party comes to power.

In the same video, he allegedly says that the BJP may not win more than 100 to 120 seats on its own and that dividing Muslim votes could influence the results. He is also heard saying, "I have a plan to mislead Muslim voters. For that, 3 to 4 crore rupees will be needed per constituency."

Trinamool slams Humayun Kabir, BJP

Reacting to the video, Trinamool Congress held a press conference and accused the BJP of attempting religious polarisation. A party spokesperson said, "The BJP is doing politics of religious polarisation. They are misleading people. The BJP has created B-teams and C-teams to divide votes."

The party also demanded an investigation into the matter. Trinamool leaders said, "We demand a proper investigation. It must be found out which PMO official is involved in this alleged financial deal. Humayun Kabir should be questioned."

The BJP, however, rejected the allegations and distanced itself from the claims made in the video.

The development has intensified political tensions in the state as campaigning continues ahead of the elections.
