Opposition parties in the state constantly claim that the wheels of development have 'stalled' in Bengal. But whatever the opposition may say while trying to put the ruling camp in the dock, statistics tell a different story. Industrialist Harsh Goenka posted about this on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
He also gave a generous certificate to the city of joy. On this day, the RPG Group chairperson wrote on his X handle, "Everyone talks about Bengaluru’s tech boom and a decaying Kolkata. But GDP tells an interesting story."

Mumbai ₹25.73 lakh crore
Delhi NCR ₹24.37 lakh crore

He further noted in his post that Kolkata ranks third among the country's top five cities by GDP. Its GDP amounts to ₹12.45 lakh crore. Mumbai and Delhi have occupied the first and second positions in the country. The GDP figures of the two cities are ₹25.73 and ₹24.37 lakh crore, respectively. In terms of GDP, Bengaluru and Chennai are placed right after Kolkata. The GDP figures of those two cities are ₹10.9 and ₹9.5 lakh crore, respectively.

The Reserve Bank authorities recently published the Handbook of Statistics on Indian States for the financial year 2024-25. It claimed that West Bengal ranks fifth in the country in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). The state's GSDP amounts to ₹18.15 lakh crore. However, Maharashtra tops in terms of GSDP. That state's GSDP figure stands at ₹45.32 lakh crore.
