The State Bank of India has warned people about scammers who send fake bank messages and KYC alerts to customers. The messages, they say, usually ask users to act quickly, for example, that your account will be deactivated because your PAN details aren’t verified.
They may also include links to harmful APK files that can hack your phone and steal money. SBI has emphasised on the fact that customers should only download apps from official stores like Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Tricks of scammers
Fraudsters are creating official-looking messages that appear genuine. Some even imitate branch managers, urging users to install “SBI Bank APK” immediately. Just one wrong click may risk your personal data, empty your bank account, and also allow scammers to access sensitive information. These messages are made to scare you, so people are more likely to act without checking if they are real.
Scam messages which are trying to fool customers
According to post by SBI, an image shows that even official-looking documents can come from fake sources. It shows a phone screen with messages which claim accounts will be deactivated because PAN card details aren’t updated. Another message pretends to be from a branch manager to gain trust and asks users to “Install SBI Bank APK".
Here's how to stay safe
SBI has urged users to always download apps from the official Google Play Store or Apple App Store, and advised customers to never click on APK files from unknown sources. It is advised to check who made the app because fake ones often copy real brand names. It is advisable to look out for signs like very few downloads, unusually high ratings, low quality design, spelling mistakes, or blurry images. Real apps usually have millions of downloads and a professional look. Staying cautious like this helps keep your personal and financial information safe, it stated.
