A Mumbai family is living through a pain that just doesn’t seem to end. Their 35-year-old son, Anand Dixit, has been stuck between life and death for over two-and-a-half years after a devastating accident, NDTV reported. He is still there, breathing, but the life they once knew feels frozen in time. Every day, his parents sit beside him, hoping for him to recover soon.

A life struck between hope and silence

It all changed on a winter night in December 2023 in Gorakhpur. Anand had just bought a new scooter. What was meant to be his dream ride turned into the moment that changed everything. Since the accident, he has been left dependent on tubes for food and machines to breathe, caught in a life that no longer moves forward. Since then, he has shown no response,no words, no movement, no recognition. He survives on machines, fed through tubes, breathing with assistance.

His caretaker has spent months waiting for a sign that is a blink, a squeeze of the hand, anything but the silence never breaks. For his family, time has stopped.

A painful incident that reminds us of Harish Rana case

Anand’s condition has drawn painful comparisons with the Harish Rana case, which once shook the country. Harish Rana had suffered severe brain injuries after a fall from the fourth floor in 2013 and remained on life support for years, dependent on tubes and machines. After a long and heart-breaking battle, his parents approached the court, seeking permission to let him go. The case reignited the national debate on euthanasia, and eventually, the court allowed it.

But Anand’s story is taking a different path. His parents refuse to even consider letting go. For them, as long as his heart beats, there is hope. They don’t see a “case”, they see their son, their child, still fighting in his own silent way.

Financial strain deepens the pain

Behind this emotional battle is a crushing financial burden. The family has spent over Rs 4 crore on treatment, selling land, savings, and everything they had built over the years. In a cruel incident, their Mumbai home was demolished amid civic action, leaving them displaced while they were already struggling to keep their son alive.

An insurance dispute added to their distress, pushing them further into debt. Yet, despite losing their home and financial stability, they have not lost faith. His mother still keeps his belongings safe, waiting for the day he wakes up and calls her “maa” again.

Anand’s story is not just about illness, it is about love that refuses to give up. It shows how a single tragedy can consume an entire family, emotionally and financially. And yet, even in the darkest silence, they continue to hold on, because for them, giving up is not an option. The family says their story is a painful reminder that without better insurance and medical support, such conditions don’t just affect the patient, they slowly break the entire family.
