Bhay – The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery which is the latest horror series premiered this week on Amazon MX Player has received a mixed response from its viewers.
The eight-episode show stars Karan Tacker and Kalki Koechlin in the lead roles. It is based on events linked to the death of Gaurav Tiwari, widely known as India’s first paranormal investigator. The real-life connection drew attention ahead of the series' release.
The series also features Saloni Batra, Shubham Chaudhary and Danish Sood. The series includes archival footage of Gaurav Tiwari, which is used at several points in the narrative.

Audience reaction after release
Viewers have mostly agreed that the subject matter is compelling but feel the execution has fall short. Many said the series does not maintain tension across all the episodes. Several episodes rely on exposition rather than the atmosphere.
Karan Tacker’s performance has been praised in early reactions. Viewers have described his portrayal as controlled and consistent throughout the series. However, few responses suggest that strong performances do not compensate for issues in writing and structure.
Some viewers pointed out that the story becomes less convincing in the later episodes. Subplots introduced midway were seen as distracting from the central investigation and the final episode, in particular, has been criticised by many for lacking impact.

Missed opportunity noted by viewers
The show’s use of real footage was noted as one of its stronger elements. However, audiences said the horror elements remain limited, with few scenes delivering sustained fear.
Online reactions indicate that Bhay had a scope to develop into a stronger horror series but does not fully deliver on its premise. As a result, the show has drawn curiosity but not strong word-of-mouth.
