Actor Rajpal Yadav got relief from the Delhi High Court on Monday, February 16, as the court granted him interim bail in the Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case until March 18, when the case will be next heard. The actor, who was lodged at Delhi’s Tihar Jail for over a week, is set to be released later today.

A bench of justice Swarana Kanta Sharma granted interim bail subject to him depositing Rs 1 lakh amount as bail bond and furnish one surety, as reported by Hindustan Times. This came after the private company's, M/S Murli Project, lawyer confirmed that Yadav deposited Rs 1.5 crore in the company's bank accounts against the bounced cheque amount.

The actor reportedly informed the Court that his niece was getting married on February 19. Given the circumstances, the Court granted him temporary relief, reported Hindustan Times.

"Interim suspension of sentence in the net date of hearing... You [Yadav] should be present in the court or remain present on VC (video conferencing). We do not want any discrepancy," the Court said, reported Hindustan Times.

Delhi HC had earlier asked to deposit Rs 1.5 crore by 3 pm

Earlier during the hearing on Monday, the court had directed Rajpal to deposit Rs 1.5 crore by 3 pm. After the lawyer of the complainant, M/S Murli Project, informed the court that the actor had deposited the amount in the company’s bank account against the bounced cheque, the Delhi High Court approved his interim bail.

What is the cheque-bounce case?

Rajpal Yadav's legal issue started in 2010 when he borrowed Rs 5 crore to make his first film as a director. The film’s failure raised the amount gradually to Rs 9 crore. Several cheques he gave to repay the money bounced, which led to a criminal case. On February 4, the Delhi High Court ordered him to surrender for violation of commitments. Even though he offered to pay Rs 25 lakh immediately, the court refused to dismiss its order. On February 2, 2026, the Delhi High Court directed Rajpal Yadav to surrender after the actor informed the court that he was unable to repay the loan.
