Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas has opened up on a very emotional period in her life, sharing the story of her daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas's early arrival and the difficult weeks that followed. Speaking on the Jay Shetty Podcast, Priyanka Chopra Jonas shared how those weeks were very overwhelming for her and Nick Jonas as they waited for their baby to be discharged from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

A difficult start in the NICU

Priyanka revealed that the couple spent most of their time at the hospital during those early days, navigating strict NICU protocols. "We went with her to the NICU. One of us was allowed at a time, and she cried the first time. It was like a cat," Priyanka recalled, describing the fragile moments after Malti's birth.

Although family members travelled to support them, Priyanka said the experience felt isolating as their focus remained entirely on their daughter's recovery. The uncertainty surrounding Malti's health made the situation even more emotionally challenging.

Announcement made under pressure

The actor also spoke about how the couple had to publicly announce their daughter's birth sooner than they had planned. According to Priyanka, a media leak forced their hand at a time when they were still processing the situation privately.

"We weren't ready because we didn't know what would happen with her or how she would be," she said, adding that they were "kind of forced into announcing her birth" after learning the news might be published within hours. She described the period as a "personally traumatic time", marked by anxiety and constant concern for their child.

Finding comfort through music and faith

During Malti's stay in the NICU, Priyanka and Nick turned to personal rituals for comfort. "Nick would sing to her on his guitar. I used to have this little iPod which played all my mantras, my Mahamrityunjay Mantra, my Gayatri Mantra, my Om Namah Shiv mantra, softly all day inside her crib," she shared.

Priyanka emphasised that Malti was "very desired, very coveted, and treasured", explaining that the early months required their complete attention and emotional strength.

Since then, the couple has largely kept their daughter's life private, sharing only occasional glimpses. Priyanka, who married Nick Jonas in 2018 in Rajasthan, continues balancing family life alongside upcoming projects including The Bluff, season two of Citadel, and her Telugu debut Varanasi.
