The Supreme Court witnessed a brief, light-hearted moment during the hearing of a case linked to the Allahabad High Court, when Chief Justice of India Surya Kant made a humorous remark while fixing the next date of hearing ahead of Holi.
The bench was discussing the scheduling of the matter, keeping in mind the upcoming Holi holidays. Since court functioning would be affected due to the festival break, the Chief Justice suggested that the case be listed after Holi.

CJI’s humorous remark goes viral
While deciding the next date, the CJI playfully said the matter should be listed even a week after Holi, referring to local festivities. CJI said, “List it after Holi break. No no... list after that week also... Allahabad hai bhai.. ek hafta toh lag jayega bhang ka nasha utarne mein” (It's Allahabad, brother... it’ll take at least a week for the effect of the bhang to wear off).
The comment, made in jest during routine court discussions, was not part of any judicial order. However, a clip of the exchange has since gone viral on social media, with users sharing and commenting on the CJI’s wit.

Context behind the remark
Many areas of Uttar Pradesh, especially Kashi and Allahabad, are often associated with the tradition of consuming cannabis or “bhang” during Holi celebrations. The custom has been followed for years, with people traditionally drinking bhang on the festival day.
Observers note that such light-hearted exchanges occasionally occur during court proceedings, without affecting the substance of the legal matter. The case remains pending, and the next hearing will now take place after the Holi holidays.
