Even as Dhurandhar continues its unstoppable run at the box office, new details from behind the scenes of the film are drawing attention. Choreographer Vijay Ganguly has revealed that Tamannaah Bhatia was initially considered for the song Shararat, but director Aditya Dhar decided against casting her to protect the film’s narrative focus.

In an interview with Filmygyan, Ganguly said that Tamannaah was his first choice for the song, but Dhar was clear about not wanting an “item song” that could distract from the story.

“In my head, she was the one,” Ganguly said. “I had suggested her, but Aditya was very clear that he did not want what people call an item song, something that went out of the story. If it were just about one girl, it would have taken attention away from the story.”

Instead, the song featured Ayesha Khan and Krystle D’Souza, a deliberate creative choice meant to keep the focus on the film rather than a single star presence.

Why ‘Shararat’ featured two performers

Explaining the decision further, Ganguly said the director wanted to avoid turning the song into a standalone spectacle.

“That’s why there are two girls, not one,” he said. “He didn’t want the attention to be about one person. If it were Tamannaah, it would have been about her and not the story.”

He added that Shararat was designed to remain integrated with the film’s narrative flow. “There was a lot going on in the film. If you go away from the story, then the song just becomes a cut-to song.”

Despite not featuring a major dance star, Shararat has emerged as one of the most talked-about tracks from Dhurandhar. The song recently gained international attention after pop singer Nick Jonas was seen grooving to it, surprising fans online.

Meanwhile, Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller continues to break records. The Ranveer Singh-led film has crossed ₹516.5 crore at the domestic box office and is now the second fastest Indian film to enter the ₹500 crore club, achieving the milestone in 16 days. Only Pushpa 2 reached the mark faster.

Dhurandhar also stars Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun.
