Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has firmly dismissed calls for him to become the “new political face” of Punjab, saying he is content with his entertainment career and has no plans to step into politics.

The discussion began after Punjabi Tribune published a report asking whether Diljit could emerge as a fresh political voice in Punjab. According to the published report, a group of civil society members, retired soldiers, and professionals reportedly urged the singer-actor to consider joining public life. The initiative was said to be led by retired bureaucrat SS Boparai, who believed Diljit’s popularity and public connect made him a suitable candidate.

Diljit, however, wasted no time responding. Reacting to the appeal on social media, the singer wrote, “Kadey v Nhi..Mera Kam Entertainment Karna. (Never. My job is to entertain) Am Very Happy in My Field. Thank You So Much.”

His reply quickly gained traction online, with many fans praising the clarity of his response. One social media user commented, “Thank you! Don't waste your life's purpose chasing politics. You will lose yourself in that dirty space.” Another simply wrote, “Good reply.”

Recent controversies and public statements

Diljit has remained in the headlines in recent weeks, both for his international appearances and his comments on political and cultural issues connected to Punjab.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon hosted by Jimmy Fallon, the singer reflected on the history of Indians in Canada and referenced the Komagata Maru incident while speaking about performing in Vancouver.

He said, “That stadium we did in Vancouver…like 1914, our people came for the first time in Canada, they didn’t allow us to come and go to Canada. And that stadium is just two kilometres away from the Guru Nanak Jahaz Komagata Maru incident. So, it’s a big thing for us now, 55,000 people in the one stadium there, just two kilometres away, you didn’t allow us to come. And now, here we are, man. So, that’s why it’s amazing.”

The singer also addressed pro-Khalistani protesters during one of his concerts after some attendees waved flags in the crowd.
