Nearly 20 years after the original became a pop-culture hit, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has performed strongly at the box office. Released worldwide on May 1, the sequel has already earned more than $300 million globally in its first week.
The film’s success has also increased interest in the salaries of its returning stars. According to Variety, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt reportedly received much higher pay than they did for the 2006 original film.
Meryl, Anne and Emily receive huge pay raises
As per NDTV reports, sources claim that Meryl Streep accepted $12.5 million to return as Miranda Priestly in the sequel. Sources also said the Oscar-winning actress negotiated a “favoured nations” deal with co-stars Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt.
Both Anne and Emily reportedly earned the same amount to reprise their iconic roles as Andrea Sachs and Emily Charlton. The three actresses were among the biggest highlights of the original film and returned together for the sequel.

Box office bonuses increase earnings further
Apart from their huge salaries, the lead actresses also reportedly received extra box office bonuses linked to the film’s worldwide performance. Reports said the stars could earn more if the movie continues to attract audiences in the coming weeks.
As per NDTV reports, two sources estimated that each star could earn up to $20 million if attendance remains strong. Reports also claimed that the film’s successful opening week has already triggered bonus pay-outs.
Original cast returns with new faces
Directed by David Frankel, the sequel brings back major cast members including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. The film also features new stars like Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux and Simone Ashley.
Fashion designer Donatella Versace and singer Lady Gaga also make cameo appearances in the movie. Lady Gaga also created the original song Runway for the film’s soundtrack.

The story follows Miranda Priestly as she deals with the decline of print media while facing competition from her former assistant Emily Charlton, who is now a successful executive. Andy Sachs is once again drawn back into the world of Runway magazine.
