Taylor Swift has added another milestone to her already remarkable career. The global pop star was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame on Thursday, becoming the youngest woman ever to receive the honour.

At 36, Swift joins an elite group of songwriters whose work has left a lasting impact on American music. The recognition places her among some of the most celebrated names in the industry.

Record broken after nearly four decades

With her induction, Swift surpassed the record previously held by Carole Bayer Sager, who was 43 when she entered the Hall of Fame in 1987. Other renowned artists such as Mariah Carey and Dolly Parton were inducted in their 50s.

The overall record for the youngest inductee remains with Stevie Wonder, who joined the Hall of Fame at the age of 32 in 1983.

Artists become eligible for induction 20 years after the release of their first commercial recording. For Swift, that milestone traces back to Tim McGraw, which was released in June 2006.

A career defined by success across genres

Over the past two decades, Swift has evolved from a country music teenager into one of the world's most influential artists. She has released 12 studio albums spanning country, pop and folk music.

Her achievements include 14 Grammy Awards, among them a record four Album of the Year wins. Commercially, she remains one of the most successful recording artists of all time, with estimated global sales exceeding 250 million album-equivalent units.

Her recently concluded Eras Tour also set new benchmarks, generating an estimated $2 billion in revenue worldwide.

Swift is also the female artist with the highest number of songs to reach Billboard's top 10 chart.

Why the Hall of Fame honoured her

Ahead of the ceremony in New York, Swift appeared on the red carpet in a strapless black dress featuring floral motifs.

Explaining the decision, the Songwriters Hall of Fame praised her "ability to shapeshift as a songwriter, to inhabit different sonic landscapes and write as credibly in the world of one genre as she does another is part of her superpower as a songwriter".

Her profile on the organisation's website further states: “It also represents the boldness and bravery of her artistry: to explore new frontiers when the most practical next step would be to keep mining the material that has gotten you the success in the first place.”

Canadian singer Alanis Morissette, producer Walter Afanasieff, and KISS members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were among the other inductees honoured this year.
