There have long been rumours that actor and politician Joseph Vijay Chandrasekar, known as Vijay Thalapathy, is in a relationship with actor Trisha Krishnan. The rumours grew stronger after his wife, Sangeeta Sornalingam, filed for divorce in a Chennai court. In the petition, she listed her name as Sankgeetha and claimed that Vijay Thalapathy was involved with a colleague.

Adding to the speculation, Vijay Thalapathy and Trisha Krishnan were seen attending a wedding together in Chennai on Thursday evening.

Was 'Thalapathy's' bodyguard’s post linked to Vijay Thalapathy-Trisha Krishnan rumours?

On Thursday, Vijay Thalapathy and Trisha Krishnan were seen at the wedding reception of AGS producer Kalpathi Suresh’s son in Chennai. They arrived together at the event, which quickly sparked buzz and further fuelled rumours about their relationship. Earlier that day, Vijay Thalapathy's bodyguard Aroon Suresh shared a message on his Instagram story and wrote, “Time to rise above all the rumours,” along with a fire emoji.

He later deleted the post after people on the internet took screenshots and started sharing it widely. However, he did not remove another picture he posted of Vijay Thalapathy making a heart sign, which had no caption.

He used the song “Kokkarakko” from Vijay Thalapathy and Trisha Krishnan's 2004 film 'Ghilli' with the picture. Soon after, people on X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit started speculating that Aroon might be indirectly hinting at Vijay Thalapathy and Trisha Krishnan's relationship.

Sangeeta Sornalingam's plea for divorce

Reports last week said that Sangeeta Sornalingam had filed a divorce petition in a jurisdictional family court in Chengalpattu district. According to PTI, the plea was filed under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, stating that the marriage had irretrievably broken down. In the petition, she sought a divorce and alleged that her husband, Vijay Thalapathy, was involved in an extra-marital relationship with an unnamed actress, which caused her “persistent mental cruelty, neglect and desertion”.

The petition further states that Vijay Thalapathy has been “emotionally withdrawn” since 2021 and treated her with “verbal disdain”. It also claims that she faced “constructive desertion” and was “forced to live separately within the matrimonial home”. According to the plea, between August 2024 and February 2025, she sent several notices and letters in an attempt to resolve the matter amicably.

Vijay Thalapathy and Sangeeta Sornalingam first registered their marriage in the United Kingdom on July 10, 1998. A year later, they held their wedding ceremony in Chennai on August 25, 1999, in front of fans. The couple has two children, son Jason Sanjay and daughter Divya Saasha. Jason Sanjay is set to make his directorial debut with Sundeep Kishan’s film 'Sigma'.

In her petition, Sangeeta Sornalingam claimed that Vijay Thalapathy's alleged affair has brought embarrassment to their children.
