A 29-year-old man from Karol Bagh was arrested early Sunday after his speeding Mercedes crashed into a roadside pole near Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj, killing a 23-year-old man and injuring two others.
The driver, Shivam, allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to a diversion and hit the pole where the three victims were standing. All three worked at a restaurant in Ambience Mall.
As per a Hindustan Times report, the Police said Shivam had borrowed his friend’s Mercedes to attend a wedding. “He was returning home with his wife and elder brother after attending a wedding. As per preliminary inquiry, the vehicle lost balance due to a diversion, hitting a pole at an auto stand where the three victims were standing,” a police officer said.

The accident was reported to the police control room (PCR) at 2:33 am on Mandela Marg. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel said the damaged Mercedes was found and seized. As per the HT report, Goel said, “There were three injured people aged around 25, 35, and 23. All of them worked at a restaurant in Ambience Mall. They were taken to a hospital where one of them, Rohit Singh, died during treatment. The other two injured persons are undergoing treatment.”
Singh was a resident of Chamoli in Uttarakhand. DCP Goel confirmed that the driver has been apprehended and that necessary legal action is being taken against him. No FIR has been lodged yet. Police said they are questioning the accused and seeking statements from the other two injured individuals.
