Comedian Pranit More has issued a public apology following the controversy surrounding a viral clip from one of his shows that sparked widespread criticism online.

The row began after audience member Himanshu Jangra shared a dating experience during More’s crowd work segment. In the exchange, Jangra suggested that because he had spent Rs 370 on a plate of chicken biryani during a date, he expected something in return from the woman. The remark quickly drew backlash on social media, with many users describing it as misogynistic and transactional.

‘I got carried away’

Responding to the criticism, More posted a video on Instagram acknowledging his role in the incident and accepting responsibility for allowing the conversation to continue on stage.

“While I was doing crowd work with that guy, he said many derogatory things, but everyone was laughing. I got carried away, and it was a lapse in judgment. I feel this was a big mistake on my part. I could have stopped him there or taken a stand, but I didn’t," he said.

The comedian added that he understood why people were upset and admitted that his actions contributed to the situation gaining wider attention.

Accepts criticism, apologises to those hurt

More said he deserved the criticism he had received for giving the audience member a platform to make the remarks.

“I gave him a platform, which caused things to escalate. To anyone who was hurt because of this, I want to apologise. Whatever legal proceedings are happening against me, I am cooperating with the authorities," he added.

The controversy has generated extensive discussion online, with many users debating the responsibilities of performers during live crowd interactions and audience participation segments.
