Barely 24 hours after the Bharatiya Janata Party celebrated winning 89 seats and emerging as the single largest party in the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls, the state unit suspended former Union minister and Arrah MP R K Singh on Saturday.
BJP MLC Ashok Agarwal was also shown the door, at least temporarily.
ANI cited the official suspension letters, which noted both leaders were penalised due to “anti-party activities” and behaviour that violated organisational discipline.

“Your activities are against the party. This falls under violation of party discipline. The party has taken this matter seriously, and it has caused harm to the party,” the letter read.
“Therefore, as per instructions, you are being suspended from the party and asked to explain why you should not be expelled from the party. You are hereby directed to clarify your position within one week of receiving this letter.”
The party has given both Singh and Agarwal seven days to explain their stance and defend themselves before further action is considered.
People familiar with the matter told The Hindustan Times that several complaints had accumulated against Singh in recent months, particularly during the Bihar election period. The allegation was simple: Singh was openly criticising his own party leaders and creating confusion among voters. One BJP insider said the leadership viewed his remarks as not just dissent but active disruption.
Tensions escalated in October when Singh posted a message on Facebook asking people not to vote for candidates with criminal backgrounds.
Now, apparently, it sounded like it named candidates who belonged to the BJP’s own alliance, including JD(U)’s Anant Singh and BJP’s Samrat Choudhary, who is also Bihar’s deputy chief minister. The post reportedly angered senior BJP figures, who believed it undermined the NDA’s campaign narrative.
