At least four people were killed and 25 others injured after a tragic road accident involving multiple vehicles occurred on the Delhi-Agra, or Yamuna, Expressway in Mathura on Tuesday morning. The collision, which occurred amid dense fog and poor visibility, involved seven buses and three cars, with several of the vehicles catching fire following the impact.

According to officials, the accident happened during the early morning hours when thick fog severely reduced visibility on the expressway. The poor conditions led to a chain collision, triggering panic among passengers as vehicles rammed into each other and flames broke out in some of the cars.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar confirmed the details and said that rescue efforts were nearing completion. “At least four people were killed, and 25 others were injured in a major road accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura this Tuesday morning. The collision, involving seven buses and three cars, occurred due to dense fog,” he told reporters.

He added that the fog was affecting visibility at the site. “As you can observe, it is still foggy here. This poor visibility is what caused approximately seven buses and three small cars to collide with each other. The accident also resulted in the cars catching fire,” Kumar said.

Emergency services responded swiftly after the incident was reported. “As soon as the news reached us, teams from our fire service, local police, and local administration were immediately dispatched to the scene,” the SSP said, adding that the search and rescue operation was “now nearly complete.” He confirmed that around 25 injured passengers were taken to the hospital, and none of them were in a critical condition.

Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh described the incident as “very unfortunate” and said the focus remained on relief work. “We are transporting the surviving passengers from the scene to the hospital via buses. Relief work is progressing smoothly,” he said, noting that the cause of the accident would be investigated later.

More than 12 fire tenders and 14 ambulances were deployed at the site. The accident comes just a day after a similar fog-related multi-vehicle collision on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, highlighting the growing risks posed by poor visibility during winter mornings.
