SBI rolls out YONO 2.0 with enhanced security and new features—what’s inside the app?

SBI has rolled out YONO 2.0, a faster, more secure digital banking app designed to work smoothly even on low-end smartphones, with a target of onboarding 20 crore users and hiring 6,500 staff by March 2026.

State Bank of India (SBI) has launched the new version of the Yono app, YONO 2.0, to further perfect digital banking services. SBI YONO 2.0 was unveiled at an event in Mumbai on Monday. Along with explaining what this new version will do, the SBI chairman also spoke about the bank's plans and recruitment.

Media reports indicate that this is SBI's more advanced digital banking platform. The YONO digital banking platform was launched eight years ago. After all this time, it has now been further modernised.

What benefits does the new version offer?

It has been described as a simpler app compared to the previous version. It has been announced that SBI YONO 2.0 will be able to work easily and seamlessly even on cheaper phones, meaning mobile phones with low-cost hardware, and in areas where cellular and internet connectivity is weak. According to media reports, through this platform, users will be able to easily use both mobile banking and internet banking at their convenience.

Is security stricter?

Banking transactions, especially when conducted through digital means, need to have tight security. The number of cybercrimes in India has increased significantly. Keeping this in mind, the company has stated that attention has been paid to security measures for YONO 2.0. Multiple security features will be available, including transaction control and fresh OTP generation.

At the YONO 2.0 launch event, SBI Chairman CS Shetty announced that they have a target of bringing 20 crore users under the umbrella of this new version. For this, there is also a target of 6,500 new recruitments by March 31, 2026. Of these, 3,500 recruitments have already been completed.
