ED seizes assets worth ₹7.93 crore in betting app case, list includes Ankush-Mimi, Yuvraj too

The Enforcement Directorate has confiscated ₹7.93 crore worth of assets linked to celebrities, including cricketers and actors, in the 1xBet illegal betting app investigation.

The Enforcement Directorate confiscated properties of multiple celebrities, including cricket stars, in the betting app case. The list of celebrities includes former cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa, actors Sonu Sood, Urvashi Rautela, Neha Sharma, and two Tollywood stars Ankush Hazra and Mimi Chakraborty. Properties worth a total of ₹7.93 crore have been confiscated. Multiple FIRs were filed in various states against an online betting app called 1xBet.

The ED is investigating that case. According to a news media report, the ED has stated that companies named 1xBat and 1xbat Sporting Lines were active in running illegal online gambling in India. This platform, along with its associated brands 1xBat and 1xbat Sporting Lines, was actively involved in promoting and facilitating illegal online betting and gambling activities across India. Despite having no authorization to operate the platform in India, these promotional activities were carried out through social media platforms, online videos, and print advertisements.

The accused celebrities were involved in the advertising promotion of this company. The ED's investigation revealed that the celebrities knowingly entered into contracts with foreign companies and promoted 1xBet through surrogate branding. Earlier, the ED had summoned Mimi, Ankush, and other stars for questioning. However, this is not the first instance of taking action against high-profile individuals in this case.

Earlier, on October 6, the ED had confiscated properties worth ₹11.14 crore of cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina in connection with the same investigation. This time, several more names have been added to that list.
