Kolkata Knight Riders is set for major changes. KKR is about to follow the path of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Rajasthan Royals. Changes may come to the franchise's ownership. Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta may sell a portion of their ownership stake.
KKR, the 2024 IPL champions, delivered one of the worst performances in 2025. For success in 2026, they have overhauled the entire coaching staff and built one of the best teams in the recently concluded mini auction. They want to make a fresh start in 2026. And before this new beginning, one of the franchise's key stakeholders wants to reduce some responsibility.
What is the matter?
Knight Riders Sports Private Limited was formed in 2008. They bought the ownership of the Kolkata Knight Riders for 75 million US dollars. This organisation is owned by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment and Juhi Chawla-Jay Mehta's Mehta Group. Red Chillies and Mehta Group own all the Knight Riders franchises.

According to Moneycontrol's report, Shah Rukh Khan owns 55 per cent of Knight Riders while Mehta Group owns 45 per cent. Mehta Group wants to sell a portion of this 45 per cent. A person associated with this matter told Moneycontrol, 'Unlike RCB and RR, who want to sell most of their shares, KKR is not doing that. Mehta Group wants to sell a portion of their shares and raise that money.' Another person informed that investment bank Nomura has been assigned to work on this sale. It is expected that the share transfer will be finalised in January 2026. As a result of Mehta Group selling their shares, KKR will be owned by three organisations: Red Chillies, Mehta Group and a third organisation.
