India’s regional mobility landscape has taken a major leap with the introduction of the RAPIDX train, now branded as Namo Bharat, on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor. Developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the train is designed to bridge the gap between metro systems and conventional railways, offering semi-high-speed connectivity across the National Capital Region (NCR).
Built for speed, comfort and efficiency, the RAPIDX trains are capable of reaching a design speed of 180 km/h, with an operational speed of up to 160 km/h. This allows commuters to travel between Delhi and Meerut in nearly 55 minutes.
Modern coaches with premium comfort
The Namo Bharat trains feature fully air-conditioned, ergonomically designed coaches tailored for intercity travel. In addition to standard seating, the train offers a dedicated Premium Coach equipped with reclining seats and enhanced legroom.
Each coach includes mobile charging points, luggage racks for long-distance commuters and real-time passenger information systems with LED route displays. Automatic sliding plug doors ensure safe and smooth boarding.
Accessibility has been prioritised, with level boarding, designated wheelchair spaces and accessible toilets. Braille signage has also been installed to assist visually impaired passengers.
Advanced safety and technology
Safety remains a core feature of the RAPIDX system. The trains are equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level-2 signalling, enabling automatic train protection and reducing the risk of collisions.
Additional features include CCTV surveillance inside coaches, emergency communication systems and advanced fire detection and suppression mechanisms. Platform screen doors at stations further enhance commuter safety.
Energy efficiency and sustainability
The RAPIDX trains incorporate regenerative braking technology, which allows energy to be fed back into the system during braking. The aerodynamic stainless-steel body design reduces drag and improves energy efficiency, while also helping minimise noise levels in urban stretches.

Designed for the future of NCR connectivity
Unlike conventional metro trains that focus on short urban commutes, RAPIDX has been engineered for longer regional distances with fewer stops and higher cruising speeds. The trains are manufactured in India under the Make in India initiative and are customised specifically for high-frequency, high-speed regional operations.
As the RRTS network expands to additional corridors, the Namo Bharat RAPIDX trains are expected to play a central role in reshaping daily commuting across Delhi-NCR, offering a faster, safer and more sustainable alternative to road travel.
