A blazing fire broke out on the fifth-floor balcony of a multi-storey residential building near EM Bypass on Monday morning, triggering panic among residents. Flames were seen rising from Tower Four of Urbana, prompting people to rush out of their apartments to save their lives.

According to police sources, the incident occurred around 10:40 AM. Residents across multiple towers stepped out in fear after spotting the blaze. The upscale complex houses several Tollywood personalities, including actor Payel Sarkar, who also came out after hearing about the fire.
Rope access team douses blaze
Before the fire department could reach the spot, a specialised private maintenance team known as the 'Spiderman' group jumped into action. Descending from the rooftop with ropes and safety harnesses, they climbed down the exterior walls to reach the affected balcony.
Hanging mid-air and spraying water through pipes connected to the building’s internal fire suppression system, the team brought the flames under control within minutes. The dramatic rescue resembled a movie scene, but residents confirmed the workers are professionally trained for such emergencies.
Private agency handles risky tasks
Residents said the 'Spiderman' group has been given responsibility for maintaining the residential complex. From cleaning outer walls and glass facades to handling fire emergencies, they regularly perform high-risk tasks using rope access techniques. Window glass cleaning is carried out every few months in the same manner.

The six-member team played the key role in controlling Monday’s fire. A fire department official later said that if large residential complexes arrange such systems, fire damage can be minimised and official firefighting operations become significantly easier.
