'Ketan was like our son': Siya Goyal's family breaks silence on Pune murder case

The parents of Siya Goyal, who has been charged with the murder of her fiancé Ketan Agarwal along with the help of her lover Chetan Chaudhary, have demanded that she should get the toughest punishment if their daughter is found guilty, saying they are devastated by the death of a man they considered family.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Siya's mother, Pooja Goyal, said that if the allegations against her daughter are proven in court, she should face the strictest consequences.

"If my daughter is found guilty, then she should be thrown from the same place where Ketan was thrown from," Pooja Goyal said. Echoing her sentiments, Siya's father, Praveen Goyal, said that justice should prevail regardless of family ties.

"From the fort where Ketan fell, the accused, even if it is my own daughter, should be pushed down," he said.

According to police, Siya Goyal, 20, and her alleged boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary, 22, conspired to kill 26-year-old Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal by pushing him off a cliff at Lohagad Fort near Lonavala on June 18. The incident was initially reported as an accidental fall during a trek.

'Ketan was like our son,' says family

Expressing grief over Ketan's death, Praveen Goyal said his family had developed a close bond with him and had accepted him as their own son. "They've lost their son, and their son was ours too. We loved him very much. We had become deeply attached to him," he said.

The families had fixed Siya and Ketan's wedding for November this year, with celebrations planned in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Pooja Goyal said that throughout the engagement period, Siya never expressed any dissatisfaction regarding the marriage proposal.

"There were so many expectations and so much affection. Ketan's family treated Siya with immense love and respect. Siya never told us she was unhappy with this marriage," she said.

Parents deny knowing about Chetan

Both parents claimed they were unaware of Siya's alleged relationship with co-accused Chetan Chaudhary.

"We did not know anything about Chetan. Ever since the engagement, she only spoke to Ketan," Pooja Goyal said. Praveen Goyal described his daughter as a "simple girl" and said he had never met or spoken to Chetan.

"I don't know anything about him. I've never seen his face and he has never come to our house," he said. Police investigations have revealed that Siya and Chetan allegedly remained in contact while preparations for her wedding to Ketan were underway. Investigators are also probing claims that the duo had planned the murder over several weeks.

Police probing previous attempts

According to investigators, Siya had allegedly persuaded Ketan to visit Lohagad Fort multiple times before the incident. Police suspect that an earlier attempt to kill Ketan may have taken place during a visit to the fort on June 14, when he allegedly survived after grabbing onto nearby vegetation.

During questioning, Siya reportedly told police that she did not wish to marry Ketan and had communicated her concerns to him. Investigators are currently verifying these claims.

The police have further claimed that the allegations and statements made by the accused were still under investigation. The Pune Rural Police are still investigating the conspiracy allegation and are analyzing all digital evidence, call logs, and witnesses.
