Odisha’s rich cultural heritage found a grand platform in the national capital as artists, scholars and dignitaries gathered for a special cultural evening titled 'Swapnila Odisha, Bharat Smriti Re' at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. Organised by Anwesha Kala Kendra, the programme paid tribute to the celebrated poet Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja while showcasing the state’s vibrant literary, artistic and folk traditions. The event brought together cultural enthusiasts from across the country and highlighted Odisha’s enduring contribution to India’s cultural landscape.
A tribute to Odisha’s artistic traditions
According to The Indian Express, the evening featured a range of performances that reflected the depth and diversity of Odisha’s cultural heritage. Renowned Odissi dancer Kavita Dwivedi captivated the audience with a classical dance presentation, while special segments dedicated to Upendra Bhanja revisited the literary legacy of one of Odisha’s most influential poets.
Traditional folk performances, including Sakhi Nacha, Dhoba-Dhobuni and Kela-Keluni, added colour and energy to the event, offering a glimpse into the state’s living cultural traditions. The programme also included an exhibition of Odisha’s handloom and handicrafts, displaying the craftsmanship that has earned recognition across India and beyond.

Union minister praises cultural preservation efforts
According to The Indian Express, Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat attended the programme as the chief guest and lauded the efforts of the organisers in preserving regional cultural traditions. He praised the commitment of Odisha Srujani and the organising team for creating a platform that connects younger generations with India’s literary and artistic heritage.
The minister noted that cultural initiatives of this nature play a crucial role in keeping regional identities alive while strengthening the broader fabric of Indian culture. His remarks underscored the importance of promoting local traditions on national platforms.
