Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday reassured the public about the country's fuel availability, stating that India has sufficient energy supplies despite the ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
In a post on X, the minister said India continues to maintain uninterrupted energy imports even as global markets remain sensitive to developments in the region.

Concerns over Strait of Hormuz
The minister's statement comes amid growing concerns globally about potential disruptions in crude oil supply due to the US-Iran conflict. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime route for oil shipments, plays a key role in global energy trade.
Government sources cited by ANI said India's supplies of crude oil, petroleum products and LPG remain in a "very comfortable position".
Officials said the country has strengthened its energy security in recent years by diversifying sources of crude imports.
Since 2022, India has significantly increased its crude imports from Russia. In February, about 20 percent of India's total crude imports, estimated at around 1.04 million barrels per day, came from Russia.

The diversification strategy is aimed at ensuring stable energy supplies even during periods of global uncertainty.
Oil companies dismiss shortage rumours
Meanwhile, state-run Indian Oil Corporation dismissed social media posts claiming fuel shortages as "baseless". The company said fuel stocks remain adequate and the distribution network across the country is operating normally.
Officials also urged citizens not to panic or rush to fuel stations and to rely only on official updates.
To further strengthen supply, government sources said major refineries, including LPG units, have been instructed to increase output to ensure adequate availability nationwide.
India has also begun importing LPG from the United States. Public sector firms signed a one-year agreement in November 2025 to purchase around 2.2 million tonnes per year from the US Gulf Coast for 2026.
