After a spell of light rainfall late Tuesday night, Delhi is likely to see more showers on Wednesday, May 13, with thunderstorms expected across parts of the city. According to the India Meteorological Department, changing weather conditions may offer short-term respite, but the overall trend points towards rising temperatures in the coming days.
While Delhi was placed under a yellow alert on Tuesday due to the possibility of rain, thunderstorms and lightning, no such alert has been issued for Wednesday. The IMD has, however, forecast rain and thunderstorm activity through the day.
The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may settle near 27 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, strong winds were recorded across the city, though rainfall remained minimal in most areas.

Limited rainfall across weather stations
Data from the IMD showed that Safdarjung, Delhi’s base weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius, about 0.5 degrees below normal. No rainfall was reported there till 5:30 pm. At Palam, only 0.1 mm of rainfall was recorded between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, while several other stations reported either trace amounts or none.

The IMD has indicated a steady increase in temperatures over the next few days. As per its latest bulletin, “Gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3-5C during next 7 days”, along with “No large change in minimum temperatures during next 4 days and rise by 1-2C thereafter.”
By May 17, the maximum temperature in the capital could reach up to 41 degrees Celsius, signalling a return of intense heat despite intermittent rain.
