The Delhi Capitals have become a part of the history-smashing 264 runs on board with the help of a cracking 150 by Rahul and Nitish Rana’s 91 runs, which helped the Capitals to form a partnership of 220 runs. This was the second-highest partnership IPL has ever seen, after the mammoth carnage created by Virat and AB de Villiers in 2016 against the Gujarat Titans. The Delhi Capitals batter has put the batting on a show and smashed the bowlers out of the park with so much ease, that the stadium seemed to be shorter than its actual size. The innings by KL Rahul was the highest individual run ever made by any kind of Indian player.
For the Punjab Kings, it was a nightmare outing for the bowlers as every one of them leaked 40+ runs in a high-scoring innings of 264/2 in 20 overs (CRR 13.2).

Arshdeep Singh gave away 49 in 4 overs (ER 12.2) while Xavier Bartlett was the most expensive, conceding 69 in his 4 overs (ER 17.2). Marco Jansen (45/0, ER 11.2) and Yuzvendra Chahal (42/0, ER 10.5) couldn’t find breakthroughs, while Vijaykumar Vyshak went for 48 in just 3 overs (ER 16). Even Marcus Stoinis wasn’t spared, conceding 11 in his lone over. It was sheer batting domination with no respite for the bowlers.
Apart from the 220-run partnership, IPL over the years has seen record-breaking partnerships. Here is the list
Virat Kohli & AB de Villiers (229 Runs)
The gold standard of T20 batting remains the 229-run masterclass by Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers against Gujarat Lions in 2016. Both icons smashed centuries in the same innings, dismantling the bowling attack with clinical precision. Their historic chemistry turned the Chinnaswamy Stadium into a boundary-hitting exhibition that remains unbeaten.
Virat Kohli & AB de Villiers (215* Runs)
This legendary duo also holds the second spot with an unbeaten 215-run partnership against Mumbai Indians in 2015. De Villiers’ explosive 133* and Kohli’s steady 82* showcased their unmatched ability to rotate strike and find gaps. It was a definitive performance that cemented their status as the IPL’s greatest pair.
Quinton de Kock & KL Rahul (210* Runs)
In 2022, Lucknow Super Giants openers Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul made history by batting through the entire 20 overs against KKR. Their 210-run stand is the highest opening partnership in the league. De Kock's career-best 140* anchored the innings, proving that modern openers could dominate without losing a wicket.
Shubman Gill & Sai Sudharsan
Gujarat Titans’ young sensations Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan matched the 210-run mark in 2024 against Chennai Super Kings. Both batters scored breathtaking centuries, blending classical timing with raw power. Their record-breaking feat at Ahmedabad proved that the next generation of Indian talent is ready to eclipse the game’s greatest legends.

The first-ever 200-plus partnership in IPL history was set by Kings XI Punjab’s Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh in 2011. They put on 206 runs against RCB at Dharamshala, with Gilchrist scoring a blistering century. For over a decade, this Australian masterclass stood as the ultimate benchmark for multi-wicket T20 stands.
