Kolkata Knight Riders scripted history even before the first ball was bowled against Sunrisers Hyderabad, with Sunil Narine and Manish Pandey reaching significant milestones as the playing XI was announced. What followed on the field only reinforced Narine’s enduring value to the franchise.
Narine leads the charge with record-breaking spell
Narine once again demonstrated why KKR have retained him since 2012, delivering a tight and impactful spell. Fresh off a sensational Super Over performance against Lucknow Super Giants—where he conceded just one run and picked up two wickets, the veteran spinner carried that momentum forward.
Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Narine struck twice and etched his name into IPL history. He became the first overseas player to reach the landmark of 200 wickets in the tournament. Achieving the milestone by dismissing Ishan Kishan, Narine now has 201 wickets in 197 matches. Notably, he is also the first bowler to take 200 IPL wickets for a single franchise, underlining his loyalty and consistency with KKR.

Adding another feather to his cap, Narine is now the only player in IPL history to combine over 1000 runs with 200 wickets—highlighting his all-round impact. He joins an elite list alongside Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the only bowlers to cross the 200-wicket mark.
SRH collapse after strong start
Batting first, SRH looked in control at 117/2, thanks to a blistering 61 off 28 balls from Travis Head and a steady 42 from Ishan Kishan. However, the tide turned dramatically once Varun Chakravarthy broke the partnership. KKR’s bowling unit then triggered a collapse, with SRH losing their last eight wickets for just 48 runs. Narine’s breakthroughs played a crucial role in dismantling the middle order, while Chakravarthy finished with three wickets. Kartik Tyagi and others chipped in to complete the job.
