Before making his IPL debut, Smaran had already been on the radar of franchises. He even attended trials with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru but went unsold in the auction. However, his fortunes changed when Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him as a replacement player in IPL 2025. Although an injury ruled him out that season, the franchise retained faith in his ability and kept him for 2026.

His domestic journey has been equally impressive. Smaran has delivered strong performances in the Ranji Trophy, emerging as a key run-scorer for Karnataka despite competition from established names. His technique combines classical strokeplay with the power-hitting required in T20 cricket, making him a versatile middle-order option.
The IPL debut marks a significant milestone for the young batter, who has waited patiently for his chance. Replacing Nitish Kumar Reddy in the playing XI, Smaran now has the platform to translate domestic success into the biggest T20 league stage and potentially establish himself as a long-term prospect for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
