The age of 40 is strange. At this age, the body is generally still strong, but it starts aging inside the body. To keep healthy for a long time, care is necessary. Especially for the heart, attention is required. As humans grow older, immunity decreases. Also, not taking proper care or giving too much stress on the body can cause harm. In order to maintain your heart healthily, some rules should be followed:
Diet
After 40, metabolism slows down. Your heart becomes more sensitive to unhealthy fats, sugar, and sodium. Pay proper attention to a healthy diet. Do not neglect problems such as cholesterol, blood pressure, and inflammation. Reduce saturated fat intake. Consume salt and sugar in moderation. Control your weight.
Exercise
There is no substitute for exercise in staying healthy and keeping your heart strong. Exercise regularly, at least 20 minutes a day. Ideally, get at least 150 minutes of moderate-to-intense aerobic exercise or strength training per week.
Manage stress
Chronic stress raises the amount of cortisol hormone in one's body, hence straining the heart. Lack of sleep raises the blood pressure and consequently enhances a person's risks for heart disease. 7–8 hours of sleep per day is vital. To maintain a healthy heart, it is necessary to maintain a good state of mind.
Regular check-ups
Assuming "I am fine" without regular checkups can be quite dangerous. High blood pressure and cholesterol can affect your body silently. Therefore, timely tests are necessary for protection. Check your lipid profile every 4–6 months and keep a watch on the blood pressure every 1–2 months. Smokers and those suffering from diabetes or obesity should be more cautious.
