A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official, Nazmul Hossain, said on Wednesday that the board would not face any financial loss even if the team does not participate in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
No financial impact on the board, says BCB official
Recently, discussions have emerged suggesting that the BCB could face significant financial losses if Bangladesh do not take part in the World Cup. However, the ICC has reportedly asked Bangladesh to reconsider its decision, as the board is unwilling to travel to India due to security concerns.

Earlier, amid political tensions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman at the BCCI's instruction.
Nazmul Hossain, who recently courted controversy by calling former captain Tamim Iqbal an “agent of India,” clarified that if Bangladesh do not play in the World Cup, the financial impact would be on the players, not the board. He explained that in such a situation, cricketers would miss out on match fees.
According to him, the Bangladesh Cricket Board would not incur any loss, as its revenue structure is already fixed until 2027, based on decisions taken at the 2022 ICC meeting. He added that while future bilateral series or World Cups could be affected, there would be no direct financial loss to the board from skipping this particular tournament.
Players to bear losses, no compensation planned
Nazmul further stated that players earn money only when they participate in matches and receive incentives for special performances, and those earnings belong to the players themselves, not the board. Therefore, in his view, whether Bangladesh participate or not does not result in any financial gain or loss for the BCB.
He also made it clear that the board would not consider paying compensation to players in such a scenario. To justify his stance, he pointed out that when players perform poorly, the board does not ask them to return money despite investing large sums, and questioned why compensation should be paid now.

He stressed that players and the board are mutually dependent. Nazmul asserted that players cannot function independently of the board and emphasised that the board and the players are complementary to each other, not adversaries.
