India have named star pacer Jasprit Bumrah in their bowling attack for the upcoming Asian Games, despite resting him for the forthcoming tours of Ireland and England. With those assignments skipped, the marquee fast bowler is expected to return to action at the continental event and provide significant experience to India's pace unit.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj and Prince Yadav have not been included in the Asian Games squad as both are part of India's squads for the Ireland and England tours.
At the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023, India fielded a second-string squad as the tournament overlapped with the ODI World Cup. Several senior players, including then-captain Rohit Sharma, were unavailable, prompting the selectors to send a different group. Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, India went on to win the gold medal, delivering a memorable campaign.
The 2026 Asian Games will be hosted in the Aichi Prefecture of Japan, with the cricket competition set to draw considerable attention. The tournament is scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4, 2026, where India will look to defend the gold medal it secured in Hangzhou three years ago.
