ICC replaced Bangladesh with Scotland officially, this decision comes after the Bangladesh Cricket Board failed to come on the same page after ICC’s deadline. Scotland will now take the spot in Group C.
In an official letter, ICC marked all the members of the board, mentioning Bangladesh Cricket Board did not comply with ICC’s board decision, and for that, they had no other way left but to invite Scotland.
Why did Scotland get the privilege of playing in the World Cup?
It’s been three weeks since the dispute started which sparked when BCCI decided to remove Mustafizur from playing in the Indian Premier League. BCB was not able to give any positive solution despite ICC’s hard try, from solving the issues to going to Dhaka for an exclusive meeting with the board members, ICC treated Bangladesh as an important cricketing nation. The Bangladesh government also stepped into the matter and confirmed they will not play the World Cup until and unless the ICC moves their venues to India.

ICC sent an invitation letter to Scotland as they have been doing well for a while, they are placed in 14th position in the ICC rankings. They finished in third in Group B of the 2024 World Cup, with the same points as England but failed to reach the next round as England had a better run rate. Their previous World Cup records are also good, which is why the ICC chose Scotland as a team from Europe to flourish in the World Cup.
