India’s tour of Sri Lanka will go ahead with just the scheduled two-Test series after the BCCI decided against adding extra T20 Internationals. Despite Sri Lanka Cricket’s interest in expanding the tour, India’s packed international calendar has left little room for additional matches, with player workload and scheduling emerging as the key concerns.
Two-Test series remains unchanged
As reported by, Sportstar, the BCCI has opted to stick to the original itinerary for India’s tour of Sri Lanka, which will feature only two Tests. Sri Lanka Cricket had explored the possibility of hosting extra T20Is, hoping to generate more revenue and provide fans with additional fixtures.

Sportstar also reports, the proposal was not taken forward as India already face one of their busiest international schedules in recent years. With multiple bilateral series and ICC commitments lined up, the Indian board chose not to increase the team’s workload.

The two Tests will instead remain the sole fixtures of the tour, ensuring that the series fits comfortably within the existing Future Tours Programme.
Heavy international calendar drives decision
India’s cricket calendar over the coming months is packed with overseas tours, home assignments and major ICC tournaments. The team is set to play England before travelling to Sri Lanka, with further series against Afghanistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand also scheduled.

Adding more T20Is would have placed further strain on the players and disrupted an already tight calendar. Managing player fitness and ensuring adequate recovery time have become major priorities for the BCCI, particularly with several high-profile tournaments approaching.
While Sri Lanka Cricket was keen to host more limited-overs matches, the scheduling constraints ultimately ruled out any expansion of the tour.
For now, the India-Sri Lanka series will remain a two-Test affair, reflecting the growing challenge of balancing commercial opportunities with an increasingly demanding international cricket calendar.
