Mohun Bagan set to appoint Punjab FC coach Panagiotis Dilmperis

Mohun Bagan Super Giant is set to begin a new chapter ahead of the 2026-27 Indian Super League season, with Punjab FC head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis emerging as the frontrunner to take charge of the club. As reported by sportstar, The Kolkata-based side is believed to have identified the Greek tactician as its preferred candidate after deciding not to continue with Sergio Lobera.

Punjab FC coach likely to take over

Dilmperis has impressed during his tenure at Punjab FC, earning recognition for his tactical approach and ability to develop young players. His work with the club has reportedly caught the attention of Mohun Bagan’s management, which is looking for a long-term solution on the sidelines.

As per the report of sportstar, the Greek coach is expected to inherit one of the strongest squads in Indian football. Mohun Bagan remains among the favourites for domestic honours every season, and the club is keen to maintain its competitive edge in both the Indian Super League and other national competitions.

Lobera’s stint comes to an end

The appointment would bring an end to Sergio Lobera’s brief spell with the Mariners. The Spaniard took charge midway through the previous campaign after Jose Molina’s departure and oversaw the remainder of the season.

Despite Lobera’s vast experience in Indian football and a successful track record with clubs such as FC Goa, Mumbai City FC and Odisha FC, Mohun Bagan has opted to move in a different direction as it plans for the future.

The club has already started preparations for the upcoming season, with recruitment and squad planning underway. Bringing in a new head coach is viewed as a key step in shaping the team’s ambitions for the next campaign.

If the move is completed, the Greek coach will face immediate pressure to deliver results and guide the Green and Maroon brigade in its pursuit of silverware during the 2026-27 season.
