Former Indian cricketer and KKR star Robin Uthappa has sounded a word of caution for Team India's senior batter KL Rahul after the star batter's below-par performance in the recently concluded Test series against South Africa. Uthappa has hinted that fans may run out of patience soon if he fails to get back to form in the upcoming tournaments.

KL Rahul's struggles in the 2025 Ind vs SA tests

KL Rahul scored only 68 runs in four innings for India during the two-match Test series amidst his changes in batting position in recent matches. His position came under scrutiny after South Africa defeated India by a massive 408 runs in the second Test at Guwahati. This victory marked South Africa’s first Test series win in India in 25 years and surpassed India’s previous heaviest home defeat of 342 runs against Australia in Nagpur in 2004.

Uthappa highlights challenges faced by senior batter

In a video on his YouTube channel, Uthappa looked back at Rahul's inconsistent form and the problems frequent batting order changes have caused him. He said, " For whatever reason, KL has had to work through his inconsistencies and moving positions in this Test squad. For me, the fact that he has actually stacked up these kinds of numbers even (after) how much he has been changed around itself is phenomenal. He has had to endure a lot within Test cricket."

Pressure to perform for team spot, Uthappa said, even as a senior pro, Rahul cannot take his place in the side for granted. “Even as a senior pro, it leaves him in a position of weakness and which is why his performing for his own spot, even though he is a senior pro, is important for his own cricket. I am telling you, one more series of him playing middling series like he has had this one, this has been a poor one, but one more of this, and then they will run out of patience with him,” he added.
