An injury scare has cast a cloud of tension in the KKR dugout. India-capped fast bowlers like Harshit Rana and Akash Deep are set to miss the tournament, leaving the KKR bowling lineup looking weak. To fill the vacancy, KKR has now roped in Sourabh Dubey in place of Akash Deep. Coming from Vidarbha, Saurabh Dubey is a left arm fast bowler. He represented Indian team in the 2019 ACC Emerging teams Asia Cup.

Who is Saurabh Dubey?
Saurabh Dubey is a pacer from Vidarbha, who joined Sunrisers Hyderabad at a price of 20 lakh in 2022, but is yet to make his IPL debut. His stats feature eight List A games and three T20 matches, with 16 wickets in eight first-class games. He was also a part of the IPL 2026 mini-auction with a base price of Rs 30 lakh, but remained unsold.
Despite lacking a breakthrough on a big stage, Dubey has shown considerable potential to perform when duty calls. He was part of India’s squad for the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh and has also taken an impressive 4 wickets for 26 in his List A debut against Nepal. He also won the Player of the Match award after India beat Nepal, and concluded the tournament with 7 wickets in 3 matches.

Thus, with Akash Deep ruled out of the tournament due to injury, the opportunity falls on Saurabh Dubey to prove his caliber. In the history of the IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders have been a platform for several Indian cricketing stars who have gone on to make it big in the game. The list seems endless with Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Varun Chakarvarthy, and Prasidh Krishna beginning their careers with the team and shining brightly thereafter. Even Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, one of the biggest names in world cricket, spent four seasons (2014-2017) with the franchise. Therefore, if guidance and experience are what channelize talent in the right direction, the KKR franchise could be a boon for Saurabh’s future endeavors. However, no official announcement has been made by the KKR management.
