In a significant development amid the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, US President Donald Trump on Monday said that both countries have been engaged in discussions over the past two days. He also announced a temporary pause on US attacks targeting Iranian energy infrastructure.

‘Very good and productive’ discussions

Trump described the talks as positive and forward-moving, indicating a possible shift in the trajectory of the conflict, which has now continued for over three weeks.

“I am pleased to report that the United States of America, and the country of Iran, have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

He further described the engagement as “in-depth, detailed, and constructive,” adding that discussions are expected to continue throughout the week.

Five-day pause on strikes

Following the talks, Trump said he has directed a halt to planned military action against Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure for a limited period.

“Based on the tenor and tone of these in-depth, detailed, and constructive conversations, which will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five-day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he wrote.

The decision marks a temporary de-escalation in hostilities, with further action dependent on how the discussions progress in the coming days.

The situation remains fluid, with attention now focused on the outcome of the ongoing talks and whether they lead to a broader easing of tensions.
