Satadru Dutta, the main organiser of football star Lionel Messi’s event, was presented before the Bidhannagar ACJM court on Sunday after the completion of his police custody period. During the hearing, the court examined his bail application and declined to grant him relief.
After rejecting the bail plea, the court directed that Dutta be sent to judicial custody until January 9, 2026. The order means he will remain in custody under judicial supervision while the legal process continues.
No further directions have been issued at this stage. Until then, Satadru Dutta will remain in judicial custody as directed by the court.
What happened to Satadru Dutta?
Lionel Messi’s much-awaited appearance at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata during the G.O.A.T. India Tour 2025 on December 13 ended in chaos. Thousands of fans turned up to catch a glimpse of the football icon, but the situation quickly went out of control due to poor crowd management and a large number of VIPs surrounding Messi.

Many spectators complained that they could not see Messi properly. He remained on the field only for a short while before being escorted away, which led to disappointment and anger among fans. Soon after, unrest broke out inside the stadium. Videos showing damaged seats, bottles being thrown, and clashes between spectators and security personnel went viral on social media.
Following the incident, West Bengal Police detained and later arrested the main organiser, Satadru Dutta. Authorities also announced refunds for ticket-holders who were unhappy with how the event was handled. The state government set up a high-level inquiry to look into the mismanagement, while several fans and former footballers openly criticised the organisation of the event.
During his visit, Messi also unveiled a 70-foot statue in Kolkata and met local officials, but these moments were overshadowed by the disruption at the stadium.
